Yellow Jewelry Holders

Have you seen this "thing" around your local Goodwill or at a garage sale?? Well, I got mine for free from my Grandma....thanks Gma!! I took it knowing someday I would use if for something!! It only sat on my shelf for about a month before I knew what I would use it for...a necklace and bracelet holder!! It is pretty delicate, so holding anything REALLY heavy would not work....since I don't have much jewelry it works great. I also had a smallish frame...around 18" X 8" that I wanted to use for hanging my earrings. I had great plans of easily spray painting them white then brown....HA! No such luck....the frame took the paint well, but the peg thing just sucked up all the paint I threw at her!! Grr. So I moved on to acrylic paint.

For this project you will need a frame....any size (I would say bigger than mine), some form of peg wooden thingy (yes...that is the technical term!!). I have seen them at numerous Thrift Towns and Goodwills. You will also need paint, chicken wire, a brush, sandpaper, material, staple gun and scissors. I got my material and paint from Joanns...isn't it beautiful?? Ahhhh....pure loveliness! I couldn't decide which color I wanted, so I picked 3 different styles. I eventually went with the yellow beauty.

Paint the frame and peg thing and let dry. Add chicken wire to the back of the frame with a staple gun. This was difficult. I did not have very good wire cutters....so I cut myself and butchered the wire a little. Anywho....after you have trimmed your edges add your material to the back as well. Easy peasy.

Now sand...pretty easy...I used 150 grit. As I began to sand the original white came through, and I LIIIIIIIKE IT!! It really pops in the distressed areas!!

The peg thing was difficult to sand...but it was so worth it to see the white come through!!

I added a little bit of the material from the frame to the peg thing. Two little bows, but it really brings the two pieces together and unifies them. :)

I am very pleased with my pieces. This was a tedious project, but so very worth it. I had forgotten what half of my jewelry looked like, but now all displayed and pretty, I cannot wait to wear it ALL (again)!!!

No this isn't all my jewelry, but I wanted to snap a few pics for effect! Ha!!

Hope you enjoyed this little project and all the yummy yellow fabric...I think I will go pick out some bling to wear to bed!! Hahaha!!

  12. I really like what you did with the frame for earrings! I thought it was so funny while browsing the power of paint party to see that "thing" when I had just contemplated buying one at a thrift shop. Of course, I didn't come home with it because I had no idea what I'd use it for! Your idea is awesome and the jewelry holders turned out so lovely!

  17. These are right up my craft alley! Very adorable and functional--the two necessary components of any altered artwork that I create. I haven't used chicken wire yet, but it's on my list. You might like the altered shutter I made. If you get a minute, check it out: http://altered-artworks.blogspot.com.
