You Are My Sunshine

To say that I've pondered a little over this project would be an understatement.  For months...actually probably a year I have wanted to make a canvas/palette piece with the words to the song "You are my sunshine."  It has such a special meaning to our family.  I sing to our rugrats every night...and this song is one of the precious songs that they love to hear.  I have sung it to each of them since birth...and as they get older and actually begin to understand the words they have EACH cried.  With my first I couldn't understand why he was so upset...then Finn...then B....then Owen.  I feel like they know my heart and I mean that are EACH are my SUNSHINE!!!  Oh, how tender are their hearts and mine when we cuddle and soak in the words to this song.

I know this saying/song is VERY popular in the blogosphere....but it really means something in this house, it not just meant to be something sweet to look at.  I love those little rugrats and enjoyed FINALLY finishing this project.  :)

I am so proud to have flippin' completed the project!!!  Haha!!  But I am so happy with the way it turned out...you know when you envision a project, complete it and realize it isn't near what you wanted it to look like?  Or is that just me?  For me it happens A LOT! :]  But this time it actually came out better....which will probably never happen again!! ;)  Anyways, I hope you like it!!

  1. It's precious! R had a toy that played the music to this song, but when she was little bitty, she would cry (not even the words!) so we couldn't play it. Hubs doesn't sing, but she was about 2 when he sang this to her and she LOVED it. After that, I wasn't allowed to sing that song to her - ONLY DADDY! I was in charge of all the other singing. :-) You did a great job!

  2. Ashley,

Your canvas turned out super cute! I've sung a different song to each of my four kids, and its so fun (and sweet) when suddenly they start to sing along, or I hear them singing it to their dolls and stuffed animals.

Stopping by from the Keeping It Simple linky party. I would love it if you stopped by my blog.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Laura

  4. Your sign in wonderful and the story behind it makes it absolutely perfect.

As I sit here at the dining room table, I can look into the kitchen and on the metal calendar there is a card clipped on. The words on the card are "you are my sunshine". I made the card for my husband for April 22, Earth Day. 43 years ago, on the original Earth Day, my husband and I had our first date. I didn't expect him to save the card, but it hangs on the calendar and I am sure it will for quite awhile.

Enjoy those little guys because they have a habit of growing up much too quickly.

  7. I loved the sweet story behind your canvas. I made a burlap version of this for my mama for Mother's Day. I love the handwriting you used and the banner, and the shutters give it the cutest finishing touch!
